Architecture is rarely a subject of teacher training. That’s why many teachers shy away from the subject of architecture at school. Overcoming these inhibitions is another task for the architects’ chambers. A good example of including architecture in teacher training is the Bauhaus University at Weimar. In 2001, special architecture courses started for students who wanted to become artistic teachers at secondary schools. Today, the courses particularly base on cooperation between teachers’ students and students of architecture, product design, visual communication or media design. The architects’ chambers themselves offer further educational training for teachers at schools. This includes architectural workshops with theoretical and practical parts, computer courses presenting architecture on the screen or fulfilling drafts made by pupils. Or they offer courses with well-known architects who teach at universities in cooperation with educators. Partly, the architects’ chambers seek cooperation with the institutions for further education of the Länder or they offer specific consultation in respect to all questions concerning architecture and school. In the counties of Bavaria, it is planned to implement so-called topic schools. These schools are experienced in interdisciplinary lessons on architecture and are ready to spread the subject of architecture into the public by regional further education for teachers and public events on a regional level. Since the beginning of 2005, a one and a half year sequence course has been taking place.
